Art object "Green Artifact", 2021

Idea of the work: The object is like a balance between cultural ties and natural cycles, between fragility and longevity, between the visible and the invisible. "Green Artifact" is a continuation of "Square No. 10", created in the village of Tyagin, Ukraine, on the site of the archaeological excavations of the castle of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The work born from the earth there takes on a different form here – one that appears on the surface of the water, alive and changing. In Ukraine and Lithuania the works are connected by ornaments that become a visual bridge between traditions. Both act as portals of time – junctions between spaces, cultures and generations. In this work I turned to what is fragile and transient – water and grass. The object lives by the rhythms of nature: in spring it puts on fresh greenery, in summer it becomes overgrown with flowers and young trees, in autumn it changes colour, and in winter, frozen in the water, it reveals an ornamental drawing. Over time a plant "crown" forms, giving new meanings. "Green Artifact" is an object that lets nature itself, time and culture speak. Materials: grass.

I thank the Vilnius University Botanical Garden team and friends whose help made it possible to implement the work.
